Demigods are mortal creatures whose veins flow with the blood of the gods. They typically gain their power from divine parentage, accomplishing an incredible feat, or receiving a gift from a god. Many demigods appear as a typical member of their mortal ancestry, but all possess a subtle luminosity and a gleam in their eyes. They’re also known to have pearlescent or metallic skin, and they might grow in size or gain physical features related to their power when it reveals itself. Because they share the blood of a Faint Divinity, a Forgotten God, a New God, or any other deity, no two demigods look the same.
Demigods are bestowed with a fragment of deific power, but not everything a demigod inherits is a blessing. Though they often excel at tasks they’re well suited for, the expectations set upon them are often difficult and costly to live up to.
In Daggerheart, PCs gain divine power in a number of ways. It can come through their ancestry, such as aetheris or infernis, who are distant descendants of the Faint Divinities. It can come through a character’s community, such as an orderborne religious collective whose faith inspires them. It can come through a character’s class, such as the seraph or warlock, who dedicate themselves to an otherworldly entity. It could also come through a transformation, such as demigod, which imposes a heavy burden to counterbalance the divine blessings.
For example, a player could build an Orderborne Aetheris Demigod Pact of the Wrathful Warlock, where each aspect of their character relates to a different source of divinity.
